Crypto price alerts on your phone
A crypto price alert is only useful if it reaches you. For most people that means the phone. An alert can get there from an app you install, or from a website you allow. This page explains both, including a desktop browser and email. It does not suggest a coin, a level, or a trade.
Two kinds of phone alert
An app from an app store asks to send notifications, and the phone shows them like any other app's.
A website can do the same thing. This is called web push. The site asks your permission, and once you allow it, the phone shows its notifications too. Nothing is installed from an app store.
Both kinds land in the same notification list and follow the same settings for sound, banners, and Focus.
iPhone and iPad
On an iPhone or iPad, web push works only for a site added to the Home Screen and opened from that icon. A site in an ordinary Safari tab cannot send these notifications. WebKit, the team behind Safari, announced web push for Home Screen web apps with iOS and iPadOS 16.4, in Web Push for Web Apps on iOS and iPadOS. The same post says the web app can ask for permission only after you tap something, such as a button to turn on notifications.
The steps:
- Open the site in Safari. If you are inside another app's browser, open the page in Safari first.
- Tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. If you see Open as Web App, leave it on.
- Open the site from the new icon, not from a Safari tab.
- Sign in there. The icon keeps its own sign-in, separate from Safari.
- In Settings, open Alerts and quiet hours, then tap Turn on phone alerts, and tap Allow when the phone asks.
Until you open the site from that icon, Alerts and quiet hours shows these steps in place of the button. If your email is not confirmed, confirm it first. The icon asks you to sign in again, a password sign-in needs a confirmed address, and the screen can resend that confirmation. The icon is a shortcut to the site. It does not place an order.
Android and a desktop browser
On an Android phone, web notifications come from the browser. In Chrome, open the site and turn on notifications from Alerts and quiet hours. The button is Turn on phone alerts. Chrome asks permission when you tap that button, not when the page loads. Tap Allow.
The same button works in a desktop browser. Allowing it adds a row for this browser, marked on for this browser. Another browser or phone is a separate row. Turning that row off does not delete the alert.
If you tapped Block, or the notifications stopped, Chrome's help page Use notifications to get alerts gives the path to allow them again:
- Open Chrome and go to the site.
- To the left of the address bar, tap Page info, then Permissions, then Notifications.
- Next to Notifications, choose Allow.
That page also says Chrome can drop the permission after a long gap, and that a private tab gets no notifications. If permission is blocked, or the browser cannot show notifications, the screen says so. Email remains available.
What the notification says
Code writes every word from the stored facts. The title names what the rule did. The body names the price and the source, plus a short fact when one fits. There is no model sentence. A note, when one exists, is on the alert page.
Where the phone shows actions, they are Snooze 1h and Mute. A tap opens the alert. If an action cannot finish, the alert page still opens. A phone that shows no actions still opens the alert when you tap it.
The notification is sent with a 4 hour limit, then it can drop. That is not a promise you will see it. How often alerts are checked covers the price check.
Sound, Focus and Do Not Disturb
A web notification does not choose its own sound. It follows the phone's notification settings, the same as an app from the store.
On an iPhone, that includes Focus. Apple's guide Allow or silence notifications for a Focus on iPhone says you can allow or silence notifications from specific web apps you have added to your Home Screen. If a Focus such as Do Not Disturb or Sleep is on and the web app is not allowed, its notifications wait in the list. To let them through, open Settings, tap Focus, choose the Focus, tap Apps, and add the web app under Allow Notifications From.
On Android, Do Not Disturb works the same way for the browser. Many people search for a crypto price alert with alarm. A web notification is a normal notification, not an alarm that keeps ringing and not a phone call. Sound during Focus or Do Not Disturb is a setting on your phone.
On Alerts and quiet hours, choose Turn on alert email. The address on your account is shown and is not edited on that row. Confirm it first. Alert email waits until you do, and the row can resend an open confirmation. Email can take longer than a phone alert.
Email is skipped when you have already opened that alert on the site. Phone and email are both held during quiet hours, while the rule is snoozed or muted, while rule alerts are grouped into a brief, and after that day's limit notice. The limit notice can go out once. A price level still past the line when quiet hours end is sent once. Cooldowns, quiet hours, and the daily limit explains those pauses.
The subject is the short phone title, or the coin and the word alert if that title is long. The body names what happened, the last price, the source, the time, a note when one was added, and which later prices are in. Links open the alert, its chart, snooze for 1 hour, mute, or unsubscribe. Unsubscribe stops alert email only, not phone alerts, and it does not close the account. Mail about a charge is separate.
Check it works
Send a test. A test uses the same path as a real alert. It is not a market move, and it does not count toward the daily message limit. If it fails, the row says so. Delivery is retried on our side.
Add email. Confirm the address first. The message waits in your inbox if the phone notification was missed.
Delivery lists what to check when an alert does not arrive. How to set a Bitcoin price alert covers the rule.
What stays on Today
Today lists every alert that fired, including one that was muted, snoozed, or held for quiet hours or the daily limit. The badge names the pause. If it is not on Today, the rule did not fire. An alert did not arrive is the longer checklist. Phone and email copy that record. A missing price is "unavailable", not a zero.
FAQ
Do I need an app for crypto price alerts on iPhone?
Not from the App Store. Add the site to the Home Screen from Safari, open that icon, and allow notifications there.
Why does an iPhone show steps instead of the button?
Safari shows these notifications only from a Home Screen icon. Until you open the site from that icon, Alerts and quiet hours shows the steps in place of the button.
Can a crypto price alert ring like an alarm?
A web notification is a normal notification, not an alarm or a call. It plays the sound your phone uses for that app. Focus and Do Not Disturb follow your phone's settings.
Why did my phone stop showing alerts?
Check the permission, and on an iPhone check that you opened the Home Screen icon and that a Focus is not silencing it. Then send a test.
Is there a free crypto price alert app?
Terminal has a Free plan that includes price alerts on your phone and by email, with nothing to install from an app store. Plans lists what each plan includes.
What does alert email include?
What happened, the last price and its source, a note when one was added, and the receipt line for later prices. It is skipped if you already opened that alert. The alert remains on Today.
Do I need an alert on every device?
The permission belongs to each browser or Home Screen icon. Turn it on for each one you want.

Before you rely on it
Pick the path that fits your phone, allow notifications, check your Focus settings, and send a test. Add email as a backup. Terminal sends price alerts as web notifications to the phones and browsers where you turn them on, and by email. It describes what the price did. It is not investment advice.
