What moves Sonic (S)
As of October 12, 2026. This page describes drivers that already have a public record, and dates that are already on a calendar. It is not investment advice. It does not say to buy, sell, or hold, and it does not forecast a price.
What typically drives the price
Issuance the docs still describe. S is the token of Sonic, the network that followed Fantom Opera. The docs, read October 12, 2026, describe several mints. An issuance of 472,372,662.8 S on September 4, 2025 covered a Nasdaq vehicle and a US entity in that write-up, and the page says a further $50 million in S may be issued for an exchange-traded product effort. The airdrop allocation is 190.5 million S. Ongoing funding is 47,625,000 S a year for six years, with the first issuance on June 18, 2025, and unused tokens burned at year end. Block rewards for the first four years are described as about 70 million tokens a year moved over from Opera, not a new mint, with new issuance of 1.75% a year after that period. Staking withdrawals wait 14 days. That wait is a per-account timer, not a network event.
A September letter that cancels manual mints. CryptoTimes, on September 22, 2026, reported a letter from Sonic's chief executive that cancels manual mints and leaves the automated mint that pays validators. The docs page read for this guide still describes the annual issue and does not mention that letter. This page does not treat a later annual mint as a confirmed date.
The October 15 burn. Sonic Labs' airdrop post says about 32,690,000 S from Season 1 and Season 2 was still unclaimed and will be burned on October 15, 2026 if it is not claimed before then. Tokens that are burned leave the supply. A claim before the deadline is a transfer to the claimant, not a new mint. The post does not say how much will actually remain unclaimed on the day.
CoinGecko's markets response on October 12, 2026, 09:56 UTC, reported circulating supply of about 3.89 billion. A maximum was not in that response. The 24-hour change in that row was about +16.5%.
Chain usage. Application launches, outages, and the fee market are the non-supply headlines. A busy chain does not retire the October 15 date.
Leverage. Perpetual markets can force liquidations that extend a move. Funding and open interest are not alert types until that feed is connected.
How much it usually moves
From October 13, 2025 through October 12, 2026, CoinGecko's daily USD series for sonic-3 produced 364 close-to-close changes. The method is in README.md.
The median absolute move was 2.8%. The 90th percentile day was 8.9%. The price moved at least 5% on 102 days, at least 3% on 175 days, and at least 10% on 24 days. The largest close-to-close change in the window was 115.7%. One daily point that large can be a thin print. The useful figure is the count.
About 1 day in 4 cleared 5%. A fixed "5% up or down" rule fires on a week that was ordinary for S in this window. October 15 can land in a week that would have cleared 5% with no burn on the calendar. An unusual-move alert uses Sonic's own recent range.
A 5% move inside one hour is a different event from a 5% close-to-close day. This count does not measure the hourly case.
Example alerts
These are examples of wording. They are not recommendations, and they are not live prices. Terminal can run an unusual move, a percent move, a price level, or a volume spike. The note on an alert describes the move. It does not tell you what to do.
- Tell me when Sonic (S) moves more than usual within an hour.
- Tell me when S moves more than usual within 24 hours.
- Tell me when S's volume is at least 3 times its 20-day average.
Leave the 24-hour rule on through October 15 if you are watching that burn date. The burn does not send the alert. The move does. An unusual-move alert waits 4 hours before it can fire again, unless you change that. A volume alert waits 1 hour by default.
Scheduled events as of October 12, 2026
- When: October 15, 2026. What: Unclaimed Season 1 and Season 2 airdrop balances, about 32,690,000 S, become eligible to be burned. What is fixed: Sonic Labs' airdrop post. The amount still unclaimed on the day was not reread for this page.
No later annual mint date was confirmed after the September 22, 2026 report. The docs still describe the 47,625,000 S yearly issue. They do not, on the page read October 12, name the next issuance day.
