What moves Bitcoin Cash (BCH)

As of October 12, 2026. This page describes drivers that already have a public record, and dates that are already on a calendar. It is not investment advice. It does not say to buy, sell, or hold, and it does not forecast a price.

What typically drives the price

The block subsidy. Bitcoin Cash cuts the new-coin reward every 210,000 blocks. Blockchair's halving page lists the next cut at block 1,050,000, when the reward goes from 3.125 BCH to 1.5625 BCH. The block height is the rule. The calendar day is an estimate.

On October 12, 2026, Blockchair's stats endpoint returned height 972,543, with a block time of 09:51:03 UTC. That leaves 77,457 blocks until 1,050,000. At the 10-minute target, 77,457 blocks are about 538 days, which lands on April 2, 2028. The day moves if blocks speed up or slow down. CoinGecko's markets response the same morning reported circulating supply of about 20.10 million against a maximum of 21 million.

The same stories that move other proof-of-work coins. BCH has moved on days when Bitcoin moved, and on days when a listing or a derivatives headline was the public story. That link is not a rule. The useful fact for an alert is smaller: the subsidy height is public, and the price rule does not need a story attached to it.

Leverage. Perpetual futures and any listed futures pay attention around a launch, and liquidations can extend a move. Funding and open interest are not alert types until that feed is connected. A futures launch date was not confirmed from an exchange notice in the sources checked for this page.

How much it usually moves

From October 13, 2025 through October 12, 2026, CoinGecko's daily USD series for bitcoin-cash produced 364 close-to-close changes. The method is in README.md.

The median absolute move was 1.7%. The 90th percentile day was 5.6%. The price moved at least 5% on 43 days, at least 3% on 104 days, and at least 10% on 10 days. The largest close-to-close change in the window was 29.2%.

About 1 day in 8 cleared 5%. Five percent sits just under the 90th percentile day, so a fixed "5% up or down" rule is quiet through many days that were already wide for a calm month, then fires when a rough patch clusters. An unusual-move alert uses Bitcoin Cash's own recent range. The bar gets tighter in a calm month and wider in a wild one. You do not type the percent.

A 5% move inside one hour is a different event from a 5% close-to-close day. This count does not measure the hourly case.

Example alerts

These are examples of wording. They are not recommendations, and they are not live prices. Terminal can run an unusual move, a percent move, a price level, or a volume spike. The note on an alert describes the move. It does not tell you what to do.

  1. Tell me when Bitcoin Cash (BCH) moves more than usual within an hour.
  2. Tell me when BCH moves more than usual within 24 hours.
  3. Tell me when BCH's volume is at least 3 times its 20-day average.

An unusual-move alert waits 4 hours before it can fire again, unless you change that. A volume alert waits 1 hour by default.
