Terminal vs CoinMarketCap and CoinGecko alerts
This page compares two alert products people already meet on coin sites with Terminal. Competitor facts were checked on October 11, 2026. The Terminal column was checked against the product on October 12, 2026. A cell marked Coming waits for a later release.
CoinMarketCap has more than one alert. This page separates them. CMC AI Alerts live at the Ask CMC AI alerts page. Classic price alerts are set in the CoinMarketCap app. CoinGecko's retail alerts are an app and coin-page feature. GeckoTerminal is a different app and is not covered here.
Information only. Not investment advice, and not a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold. Past alerts record what the price did. They do not predict what it will do.
Who it fits
CoinMarketCap fits a person who already looks up coins there. CMC AI Alerts take a sentence in chat or a short form, then send an app, email, or web notification. Classic app alerts are a separate control: a price target on a coin, set in the app. The free CMC AI plan is enough to try one daily recurring alert and three price alerts.
CoinGecko fits a person who wants a price level, or a percent, on a coin they are already reading, without a paid alert plan. Premium does not list alerts among its benefits. Auto Price Alerts can subscribe you when you search a coin and tap the result, if phone notifications are on.
The Terminal launch offer fits a person who wants the condition written out, a two-line note whose numbers come from stored market data, and a price recorded after the alert. It is not a coin directory, and it does not scan social posts.
Feature table
- Conditions. CoinMarketCap: CMC AI, manual form: Scheduled, or Price-based. Price-based is a percent change up or down, or a target price. A target price is one time only. Scheduled choices run from every 30 minutes through weekly. Free accounts are locked to daily or longer. Chat can also create an alert from a sentence. The form does not show a field for funding or a volume spike. Classic app alerts are a separate per-coin price alert. The website also has coarse toggles for Bitcoin and Ethereum milestones and for significant watchlist moves.. CoinGecko: On the coin, an alarm. You set a custom number or a preset percent. You are notified once the price hits that level. The support article does not say whether the alarm is above, below, or both. Auto Price Alerts, on by default, notify you when a searched coin "makes a major move." The percent is not published. Auto alerts expire after 45 days.. Terminal launch offer: Price above, price below, percent move, volume spike, and unusual move. You can type a sentence. The builder restates the rule, and you save the fields. The unusual-move screen shows the percent that means today for that coin. Coming: funding rate and open interest, after that feed is on.
- Delivery. CoinMarketCap: CMC AI form channels: Mobile app, Email, and Web. You consent to a notification on the channel you pick. Telegram is a CoinMarketCap product, including a chat bot, and it is not in that channel list. Classic alerts are described as app notifications.. CoinGecko: The documented channel is a mobile push. Web search can arm an auto alert. Delivery is still described as the mobile app when you are logged in. Email, Telegram, and text were not found as retail price-alert channels.. Terminal launch offer: Telegram, a phone alert (a browser notification), and email. Telegram and phone alerts are aimed to leave sooner than email. That timing is a target. Coming: Discord. Coming on Pro: signed webhooks, and a post to your own channel.
- Explanations. CoinMarketCap: CMC AI is a research chat. Suggested prompts include a note on the reasons for a move, and a daily digest. The product page says CMC AI can make mistakes and that the content is not financial advice. The alert row itself is a condition line, a trigger count, and a last time. The push body was not published.. CoinGecko: The support articles describe a price notification. They do not describe a generated note. The US App Store description says the app provides insights into why a coin is moving. The words inside an alert were not published.. Terminal launch offer: A why-note of about two lines. A model writes the sentences. Code fills every number from stored facts: the price path, volume against that coin's 20-day baseline, and the broader market move. There is no news feed in the note at launch. Free includes 10 why-notes a month. Trader and Pro include a note on each alert unless notes are paused for cost.
- Outcome record. CoinMarketCap: The CMC AI row stores how many times it fired and the last fire time. A later price after the alert was not found in the alert strings.. CoinGecko: An alert log, and a later price, were not found in the support articles opened. Portfolio profit and loss is a holdings view, not an alert record.. Terminal launch offer: Each alert stores the price when it fired, then the price 1 hour, 4 hours, 24 hours, and 7 days later. Free keeps receipts for 7 days. Trader and Pro keep them for 1 year. The receipt is a price record, not a rating. Coming: the rule's fire count and the median price change after 24 hours. Coming: a public Scoreboard of the aggregate, with no account names.
- Noise controls. CoinMarketCap: Free: 1 daily recurring alert, and intervals shorter than a day are locked. Price triggers say that if the criteria are met again after 24 hours, the alert is sent again. That interval is a tooltip, not a field you edit. Target alerts do not repeat. You can deactivate an alert. Quiet hours, snooze, and mute were not in the alert strings. A digest is a scheduled prompt you write.. CoinGecko: Toggles for alert types, once versus a repeat on custom alerts (described in an older official thread, not in the 2025 support article), a global Auto Price Alerts switch, "Don't remind me again" on one coin, the 45-day expiry, and one notification when an auto alert and a price-movement alert overlap. Turning phone notifications off drops Auto Price Alerts. Turning them back on does not restore the subscription. Quiet hours were not found.. Terminal launch offer: A daily message limit, default 8, and you can set 1 to 30. Cooldown defaults: 1 hour on price, percent, and volume, and 4 hours on unusual move. Quiet hours, off by default, preset 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM. A morning brief at 8:00 AM. Digests on Trader and Pro, off until you turn them on. Snooze 1 hour and Mute. Fires during quiet hours are still written to Today. A 30-day preview marks would-have-fired times before you save. Search does not turn an alert on.
- Price. CoinMarketCap: CMC AI plans, from CoinMarketCap's plans API at 2026-10-11T14:21:30Z. Annual billing is marked 20% off. Bill-year figures are the monthly rate if you pay yearly. Classic app price alerts are described on the free app. A cap for those classic alerts was not found.. CoinGecko: Alerts are part of the free app. No alert-count cap was found. Do not read that as a published "unlimited." Premium is a separate subscription. The US App Store lists CoinGecko Premium at $9.90 a month and $99.90 a year, each with a free trial. The May 26, 2026 support article does not list alerts as a Premium benefit.. Terminal launch offer: Free $0, 3 alerts, 10 coins, checks about every 5 minutes, no card. Trader $15 a month or $144 a year, 50 alerts, 100 coins, checks about every minute, 14-day trial. Pro $29 a month or $288 a year, 200 alerts, 100 coins, checks about every minute at launch. Coming on Pro: about every 15 seconds, backtests, signed webhooks, channel posts. These prices match the pricing page. Paid checkout stays off until the seller name and address are on the pricing page.
CMC AI plan figures from the plans API
- Plan: Free. Monthly: $0. Monthly rate if billed yearly: $0. Credits a month: 200. AI alerts: Recurring: 1 per day. Price: 3. Models: Core only.
- Plan: Essential. Monthly: $9. Monthly rate if billed yearly: $7. Credits a month: 3,000. AI alerts: Recurring and price: unlimited. Models: Core, Pro, and Ultra.
- Plan: Plus. Monthly: $18. Monthly rate if billed yearly: $14. Credits a month: 9,000. AI alerts: Same alert rules as Essential
- Plan: Max. Monthly: $90. Monthly rate if billed yearly: $70. Credits a month: 50,000. AI alerts: Same alert rules as Essential
The Ask CMC AI FAQ says logged-in users get 200 free credits a month, enough for up to 20 questions, and that unused credits expire. It says annual plans save more than 20%. The API says 20%. Whether a fired alert spends chat credits was not stated.
The alerts page also carries two older strings: "Basic plan users can only create one-time alerts" and "Basic plan users can only use Core model." The live banner on the same page says the free plan includes 1 daily recurring alert and 3 price alerts on Core. The plans API matches the banner, not the one-time-only string.
US App Store prices for CMC AI were not opened for this page.
Where CoinMarketCap goes further
- The alert lives on the site where many people already check a coin's price, and the chat can draft the alert from a sentence.
- Essential is $9 a month on the web API, or $7 a month if billed yearly, for unlimited recurring and price AI alerts on every listed model. Terminal Trader is $15 a month for 50 alerts.
- Scheduled prompts can ask for a morning digest or a portfolio summary. Terminal's morning brief is a fixed note at 8:00 AM about your alerts and receipts. It is not a portfolio review. Terminal does not give portfolio advice.
- CMC AI's own product page says it reads social posts and other crypto data feeds, and that it can be wrong. Terminal's launch note does not include a news or social feed.
- The alert row shows a trigger count and the last time, and you can turn the alert off without deleting it.
- Classic per-coin price alerts remain on the free app, separate from the AI plan.
Where CoinGecko goes further
- Setting a price or a percent sits on the coin page, and the support article does not put it behind Premium.
- Auto Price Alerts cover a coin you searched, expire after 45 days, and will not double-notify when a price-movement alert already covers that coin.
- The US app lists personalized price alerts and large-mover alerts inside a free download. The catalog the store describes is very wide (the listing says more than 10,000 cryptocurrencies).
- Premium, if you want it for other reasons, is $9.90 a month or $99.90 a year in the US App Store. You do not need it for the alert the support article describes.
Where the Terminal launch offer is different
- The sentence becomes a visible rule before you save: coin, direction, threshold, and window. If the sentence is not one Terminal can run, the builder says so.
- The why-note is short, and every number in it comes from data the product stored. A missing note does not block the price.
- The receipt keeps four later prices. Neither vendor page opened for this page describes that later price. Coming: the median change after 24 hours on the rule.
- Unusual move publishes the percent. CoinGecko's "major move" percent was not on the support page. CoinMarketCap's milestone and "significant" watchlist toggles do not publish a percent either.
- Noise controls are a daily cap, a cooldown you can see, quiet hours, and a digest. CoinMarketCap's 24-hour re-fire rule is a tooltip. CoinGecko's public pages do not describe quiet hours.
- You add a coin, then you create an alert. A search does not subscribe you.
- The launch offer does not tell you to buy, sell, or hold, and it does not place an order.
Checks run about every 5 minutes on Free and about every minute on Trader and, at launch, on Pro. That is a target for the check.

Unverified
- US App Store or Google Play prices for CMC AI. They were not opened. Web API prices above are the ones this page quotes.
- Whether a CMC AI alert spends monthly chat credits.
- The body of a CMC AI push or email. The list row was in the page strings. The message body was not.
- A numeric cap on classic CoinMarketCap app price alerts.
- The exact percent chips in the CoinGecko alarm popup. The support article says a custom number or a set percent. The screenshot text was not copied.
- Whether a CoinGecko custom alert is above the price, below it, or either. Not stated in the article text.
- Once versus recurring on CoinGecko custom alerts. An official thread from November 18, 2024 described that choice. The September 24, 2025 support article does not. Treat the thread as older than the article.
- The percent CoinGecko uses for a "major move," and any alert log or later price. Not found on the pages opened.
- CoinGecko email, Telegram, or text as a price-alert channel. Not found.
- The Premium support line that yearly is "an automatic 20% discount," next to App Store prices of $9.90 a month and $99.90 a year. Those two figures are not a flat 20% of each other. This page quotes both and does not reconcile them.
- Google Play's CoinGecko price. It was not opened. Quote the US App Store for a US iPhone.
