What moves Arbitrum (ARB)

As of October 11, 2026. This page describes drivers that already have a public record, and dates that are already on a calendar. It is not investment advice. It does not say to buy, sell, or hold, and it does not forecast a price.

What typically drives the price

A monthly unlock. Arbitrum minted 10 billion ARB in March 2023. The foundation's docs put team and investor tokens on a four-year lock: nothing for a year after the March 16, 2023 token generation, then monthly releases over the following three years. The foundation's own 750 million ARB is a separate linear lock that started April 17, 2023 and runs four years. The DAO treasury was unlocked at the start and moves when governance spends it, not on the monthly clock.

DefiLlama's unlock page, read for this guide, lists the next team-and-investor cliff on October 15, 2026 at 14:00 UTC: 56.13 million ARB for team, contributors, and advisors, plus 36.52 million for investors. That is 92.65 million ARB, 0.93% of the 10 billion cap. Blockworks' calendar has placed the same monthly size on the 16th. CryptoTicker's September 30, 2026 walk-through of the docs says the two clocks differ by how the 36 months are counted, and that DefiLlama's model still had a mid-month tranche in October, November, and December 2026, with the insider schedule ending in the first quarter of 2027. The token count of 92.65 million is the stable part. The calendar day moves by one depending on the tracker.

Activity on Arbitrum One, and governance. Fees, application launches, and DAO votes move attention to ARB. A governance vote that spends treasury ARB is a real transfer, on a date the proposal sets. Time-related product changes on the chain (how transactions are ordered, how data is posted to Ethereum) show up as upgrade notes. They are not the same event as the unlock.

Leverage. ARB perpetual markets can force liquidations that extend a move. Funding and open interest are not alert types until that feed is connected. CoinGecko on October 11, 2026, 14:20 UTC, reported circulating supply of about 6.79 billion.

How much it usually moves

From October 12, 2025 through October 11, 2026, CoinGecko's daily USD series for arbitrum produced 364 close-to-close changes. The method is in README.md.

The median absolute move was 2.3%. The 90th percentile day was 7.8%. The price moved at least 5% on 69 days, at least 3% on 151 days, and at least 10% on 20 days. The largest close-to-close change in the window was 34.8%.

About 1 day in 5 cleared 5%. A fixed "5% up or down" rule fires on an ordinary rough week for ARB. The monthly unlock is one date among those weeks, not the definition of an unusual day. An unusual-move alert uses Arbitrum's own recent range. In a month that is already wide, 5% may be inside the range. In a quiet month, a smaller move can sit outside it.

A 5% move inside one hour is a different event from a 5% close-to-close day. This count does not measure the hourly case.

Example alerts

These are examples of wording. They are not recommendations, and they are not live prices. Terminal can run an unusual move, a percent move, a price level, or a volume spike. The note on an alert describes the move. It does not tell you what to do.

  1. Tell me when Arbitrum (ARB) moves more than usual within an hour.
  2. Tell me when ARB moves more than usual within 24 hours.
  3. Tell me when ARB's volume is at least 3 times its 20-day average.

Leave the 24-hour rule on through the mid-October unlock window. The unlock does not send the alert. The move does.
